A resident of Dapchi, Yobe state has revealed why the convoy of the state governor, Ibrahim Geidam was stoned by the people of the area.
Abdullahi Kawi, Father of one of the Kidnapped Dapchi girls, Aisha, said the most traumatic part of the kidnap saga was the misinformation given the parents by the Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam.
The father of five said: “People like me stoned the governor’s convoy because he lied to us when he knew how terrible we were feeling. I’ll never regret stoning him.”
It will be recalled that on the 22nd of February 2018, Geidam’s convoy was brutally attacked by residents after a meeting with traditional rulers in the area.
He was said to have taken the leaders into confidence but they agreed that he should also address the crowd which had gathered outside.
“When Gaidam began speaking, we were calm. We followed all that he said with assurances that the situation was under control,” Abdullahi Dapchi, a resident of the town who said two of his sisters were among the captives.
But we got suspicious when he began dribbling us. You know how these politicians are. He said we should cooperate with the government that they were doing their best. We asked him about the situation and he said none of the students had been rescued.
At that point, some parents broke down in tears, some even collapsed and before you knew it, the atmosphere was chaotic. The governor had to be ferried away by his security operatives but the mob went after the vehicles in his convoy. The peace that we have been enjoying in this community was disrupted.”
Dapchi said it took the intervention of soldiers to disperse the crowd.
